Co-worker gave up on it because the cap nuts were missing. I got some new ones and put some thread locker on them, should be good to go. Can you identify what tool this is?

Looks like some sort of clamping wrench.

Plasterboard or sheetwood carrier?

thats a grabbymajig
for grabbing things

That is the action, it’s not really a wrench, it’s not used for turning.

Is it for handling sheet goods?

Not quite, the handle would have to be opposite the grippy part, but this can work either in the hand as is or with the grippy part on to the outside of the wrist. .

Grip increaser.

No sir.

it looks like a barrel rim grabber , but with flat jaws instead of curved...

It is for gripping.

Looks like it’s for grabbing sheet metal.
![]() 01/26/2019 at 20:30 |

Not for metal.
![]() 01/26/2019 at 21:14 |

Then it must be used for plywood and drywall. Kinda like this:

Nope. Demolition work.

Man, I work for a demolition company and have never seen that.

Well more so interior demo or soft demo or renovation, not quite a full building demo.
This wouldn’t be used for a full demo.

I’ve only ever used one of those for the wrong job. A make shift metal bender.
![]() 01/26/2019 at 22:58 |

I would doubt you would have had this specific tool to bend metal. But I can see how it could be used as a brake.

Yeah it was not planned, just a “I need to do this right now and I only have 5 tools to do it. Idk what this is but I’ll use it if I can”
Wait It’s for pulling up carpet! Right?
I have used it for it’s intended purpose.

this is my thought

So much win!!!!
Carpet puller.

Yeah I’ve totall used it for that. My FIL owns a flooring business and used to work for him occasionally.

Yeah we do a lot of that too, not as many totals these days. And I'm like the tool guy, not an actual demo-er but I haven't seen anything quite like that in the 9 months I've worked there. Obviously it grips, but the only stuff we use special grippers for is glass and those are suction cups, so I dunno.

Someone else guessed it, but it’s for pulling carpet.

Ohhhhh duh lol. We do actually have a couple of these but we have a big power machine that gets way more use.
![]() 01/27/2019 at 13:22 |
|
We also have the powered one, but as with all demo tools, stuff gets broke and sent back to warehouse to sit. Last week I asked for the bar and pulled about 10,000 sq ft of carpet in 2 shifts using a terminator floor scraper.
Way faster than the winch.
![]() 01/27/2019 at 16:03 |

Gotcha, our guys use the winch one mostly, but most of what we do is tile not carpet.

Oh yeah, we mostly remove asbestos, which is in the tile and glue under the carpet.
